Abstract

This study focuses on the evaluation of the welding process, considering the critical parameter of heat input for each layer. Various types of electrodes (SMAW with electrodes E7016 and E7018, as well as FCAW-GS with electrode E81T1-G) were used to achieve optimal welding results. The calculated results indicate that the appropriate heat input for the root layer, hot pass, fill layer, and cap layer are 1.88 – 2.90 KJ/mm, 2.00 – 2.79 KJ/mm, 1.14 – 1.71 KJ/mm, and 0.98 – 1.42 KJ/mm, respectively. Furthermore, the welding outcomes reveal that the hardness value of the base metal is lower than that of the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and weld metal. This indicates that the HAZ and weld metal experience heat impact and undergo transformation into smaller-sized austenite, resulting in higher hardness levels compared to the base metal. The average hardness values in the base metal, HAZ, and weld metal regions are 150.5 HV10, 206.60 HV10, and 208.67 HV10, respectively.
