Abstract

Ball mill merupakan bola penggiling yang digunakan dalam proses pembuatan semen yang disyaratkan mempunyai karakteristik keras sekaligus tangguh (tidak mudah pecah) dan tahan korosi. Prinsip kerja ball mill adalah menghancurkan material dengan menggunakan bola-bola baja agar material tersebut dapat tercampur dan halus. Tujuan dari tugas akhir ini adalah perbandingan analisis data antara vertical roller mill dan ball mill serta perhitungan tingkat efisiensi energi dan proses pada grinding mill. Data yang diperoleh dengan perhitungan neraca massa dan neraca energi maka, ball mill memiliki tingkat efisiensi peralatan 90%, efisiensi proses 76%, dan heat loss sebesar 10%. Ball millI dinilai kurang efisien juga dikarenakan teknik grinding memiliki kelemahan dimana memungkinkan terjadinya korosi akibat proses dilakukan dalam keadaan basah (wet condition). Semakin besar diameter silinder maka kecepatan rotasi akan semakin lambat. Jika kecepatan terlalu besar maka akan terjadi gaya sentrifugal pada silinder sehingga balls akan menempel pada tepi silinder dan proses grinding akan menjadi tidak optimum. Sedangkan data yang diperoleh dari perhitungan neraca massa dan energi pada verticall mill dinilai lebih baik dengan efisiensi peralatan 93%, efisiensi proses sebesar 78%, dan heat loss sebesar 7%.

Ball mill is used in the cement-making process which is required to have the characteristics of being both hard and tough (not easily broken) and corrosion resistant. The working principle of the ball mill is to crush the material using steel balls so that the material can be mixed and smooth. The purpose of this final project is to compare data analysis between vertical roller mills and ball mills as well as calculate the level of energy and process efficiency in grinding mills. The data obtained by calculating the mass balance and energy balance, the ball mill has an equipment efficiency level of 90%, process efficiency of 76%, and heat loss of 10%. Ball mills are also considered less efficient because the grinding technique has a weakness which allows corrosion to occur as a result of the process being carried out in wet conditions. The larger the cylinder diameter, the slower the rotational speed. If the speed is too large, centrifugal force will occur in the cylinder so that the balls will stick to the edge of the cylinder and the grinding process will not be optimal. While the data obtained from mass and energy balance calculations in the vertical mill is considered better with an equipment efficiency of 93%, process efficiency of 78%, and heat loss of 7%.
