Abstract

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is a dangerous medical condition related to disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Therefore, monitoring heart activity is important for early prevention of CVD. Generally, electrocardiography (ECG) is used as a method in monitoring heart activity. However, cardiac information can also be supplemented with seismocardiography (SCG) to monitor the mechanism of cardiac activity through vibrations around the chest. The use of SCG instead of ECG has several considerations, namely the fact that ECG cannot be used continuously or during MRI due to electromagnetic interference. Monitoring cardiac activity during MRI is important to avoid hyperventilation or patient panic. In this study, the seismocardiogram designed is using SMS fiber optic sensor which has the advantages of being easy, cheap, and resistant to electromagnetic interference. To improve performance and durability, the SMS fiber optic sensor-based seismocardiogram was given a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) enclosure. The results showed a sensitivity of 0.988 and a coefficient of determination (R2) of 99.99%. The seismocardiograph with SMS fiber optic sensor was validated using ECG. The accuracy of the SMS fiber optic-based seismocardiogram with PDMS enclosure calculating the systole-diastole time of the heart compared to the ECG was 95.01%, 1.78% better than the SMS fiber optic-based seismocardiogram without PDMS enclosure.
