Abstract

The cosmetics industry is growing this period of time. One of the main sources of cosmetics is essential oils, a concentrated liquid containing aromatic compounds of plant origin. The diversity of flora in the area of tropical forests spread across Indonesia makes Indonesia the largest supplier of essential oils in the world, which is around 85%. With details of about 40 essential oils produced in Indonesia, 12 of them are developed on an industrial scale, including citronella oil. Citronella oil is an essential oil obtained by distillation from the citronella plant (Cymbopogon nardus). In addition, citronella oil can be used as a raw material for the soap industry, toothpaste and medicine, as well as vegetable pesticides. With a very large area of citronella plantations, Indonesia can answer the increasing global need for citronella oil. The plant will be established in 2023 and start operating in 2025. The factory construction site is set to be located in a rice field area in West Bandung, West Java. The selection of the location of the plant takes into account labor, land availability, market, availability of raw materials, and accessibility. The main raw material in the production process is citronella as much as 1754 tons / year. The processing process of citronella oil is divided into several processes, namely size reduction, pre-treatment, extraction with supercritical CO2, and separation. The finish of citronella oil has a yield of 4% and 2.7%. To determine the feasibility of the factory, an economic analysis has been carried out which includes the calculation of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Pay Out Time (POT). The internal rate of return (IRR) of this plant is 34,64% This figure is greater than the WACC rate of 10,8%. The factory capital will return after the plant has been in operation for 3,16 years. This time is relatively short when compared to the estimated life of the plant of 15 years. Thus, the plant is worth establishing.
