Abstract

Sensibility is defined as a form of one's emotions towards a phenomenon. Emotions can be either positive or negative emotions that affect a person's psychological and physical well being. Local cultural sensibility can be utilized from the perspective of how the local characteristics of each region can affect the human emotional realm. The word "healing" became popular among the people as an effort to relieve stress. Healing needs can be a potential that is facilitated through healing tourism. This research aims to identify the sensibility of the traditional culture of the Tengger tribe as a potential for developing objects and attractions of healing tourism in the Bromo Tengger Semeru Region. Research data were obtained through participatory observation, literature study, and in-depth interviews using a phenomenological approach. The subjects (informants) of this research were 4 people who were determined using the snowball sampling technique. The research was conducted in Wonokitri Traditional Village, Pasuruan Regency and Ngadisari Traditional Village, Probolinggo Regency. Data acquisition is processed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings show that there are 3 criteria for customary culture that can be developed as healing tourism, namely culture that has continued until now not related to beliefs, religion and rituals, and is able to provide a healing sensibility. In addition, six cultures were found, which are adapted by the daily life of the Tengger people, including sunbathing activities (Memidang), gardening (Lunga), traveling (Dedolan), visiting at dusk (Sanja), gathering in the kitchen or fireplace at night (Gegeni), and meditation (Megeng). Each of the six cultures identified their own customary cultural sensibility based on the results of in-depth interviews with sources and related supporting research studies. Thus, the cultural findings of the Tengger Tribe have further potential to be developed as healing tourism.
