Abstract

The cases of HIV/AIDS transmission continue to increase each year in the province of East Java, particularly in the city of Surabaya, which has the second-highest HIV transmission rate in Indonesia after Papua. Among the cases of HIV/AIDS transmission, pregnant women are the population most affected by HIV, along with key populations. If pregnant women do not check their HIV status during pregnancy, there is a high chance of HIV transmission from mother to child during childbirth and breastfeeding. However, based on the data collected, the efforts made by the Surabaya Health Department as a stakeholder in the implementation of the Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) program have not been effectively communicated, and program evaluation has not been conducted. As a result, 49% of pregnant women are unaware of the availability of free HIV testing services. Additionally, the stigma and fear associated with HIV/AIDS pose obstacles for pregnant women in making the decision to undergo HIV testing. To support the design of this social media content, several research methods are needed, including literature studies related to HIV transmission, PMTCT programs, social media, advertising, visuals, and copywriting. Existing studies and comparative studies are conducted to serve as references for innovation in the design of this social media content. In-depth interviews are conducted with stakeholders from the Surabaya Health Department, experts, and pregnant women to validate and support the findings of the secondary research and to understand the needs and deeper audience issues related to HIV testing. It is also important to determine the audience's preferences and suitability regarding media and content. Experimental studies are conducted to determine the design concepts that will support the delivery of appropriate communication messages to the audience. In the experimental study, interviews with media experts are also conducted to obtain input, advice, and criticism regarding the designed media. Finally, user testing is conducted to test the design concept of the social media content. The goal of designing this social media content is to support the Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) program in Surabaya. Furthermore, through this design, it is expected to provide education on the importance of HIV testing and information related to HIV testing services.
The outcomes used in the design of this social media content include the use of Instagram as the main platform, utilizing features such as feeds, stories, and reels. Additionally, TikTok is used as a secondary platform to disseminate information and messages regarding Early Detection of HIV.
