Abstract

Permukiman kumuh merupakan masalah global terkait hunian ilegal, di mana masyarakat hidup dalam kondisi padat penduduk dengan infrastruktur dan fasilitas dasar yang serba terbatas. Penggusuran dan relokasi pendudukan merupakan pendekatan umum yang sering digunakan untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, namun solusi ini belum efektif mengatasi permukiman kumuh serta mengganggu kehidupan penghuni di dalamnya, memisahkan mereka dari sumber mata pencaharian, kebiasaan, dan hubungan yang telah terjalin selama bertahun-tahun, hal tersebut dapat mengakibatkan hilangnya identitas komunitas tersebut. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan pendekatan yang lebih berkelanjutan tanpa penggusuran untuk mencapai pembangunan perkotaan yang berkelanjutan dalam mengatasi masalah permukiman kumuh. Parasitic architecture merupakan pendekatan arsitektur yang temporer dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya yang tidak terpakai, memanfaat ruang-ruang sisa, dan menyediakan area fungsional tambahan tanpa menggusur komunitas yang sudah ada. Pendekatan ini mengubah area yang kurang dimanfaatkan di dalam permukiman kumuh menjadi ruang yang layak huni. Hal tersebut diwujudkan dengan menggunakan material sampah yang didaur ulang untuk membangun kampung dan memberikan fungsi baru pada ruang di bawah jalan tol sebagai area komerial. Material sampah juga dimanfaatkan dalam desain penangkap air hujan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan akan air bersih. Slums are a global phenomenon characterized by overcrowded, where communities live in overcrowded conditions with limited infrastructure and basic amenities. Bulldozing and relocation are common approaches used to address this problem, but they have not been effective in solving slum issues and can disrupt the lives of residents, separating them from livelihoods, customs, and established relationships, leading to the loss of community identity. To achieve sustainable and inclusive urban development, it is crucial to explore alternative approaches that go beyond mere demolition and displacement. Parasitic architecture is an innovative approach of temporary architecture that harnesses unused resources, occupies neglected spaces, and provides additional functional areas without displacing the existing community. This approach transforms underutilized areas within slums into livable spaces, addressing the critical need for housing, amenities, and infrastructure. It is implemented by using recycled waste materials to construct the village and repurposing spaces under highways for commercial use. Waste materials are also being used in rainwater harvesting design to meet the community's need for clean water. By repurposing neglected spaces, parasitic architecture offers a sustainable solution that respects the community's presence and enables organic growth within the slum environment.
