Abstract

Centrifugal pumps are used in practically every aspect of life, including the energy and marine industries. Pumps are frequently utilized more than what is required. As a result, reductions in pump performance and operational expenses occur. The most common method for increasing a pump's performance is impeller trimming. In this study evaluated the effect of impeller trimming with variations in motor rotation on pump performance. The impeller diameter is reduced by 10%-20% of its original diameter, with the original diameter of the impeller is 126 mm. The pump has maximum capacity is 92 L/minute and total head is 22 m. The pump is set up on the CUSSON friction in pipeline apparatus, which is powered by a 370-watt electric motor. Pressure gauge is used to measure the pressure on the suction and discharge sides. Clamp meter is used to measure the voltage and current at the pump. Parameters evaluated in this study include pump head, pump power, and pump efficiency. The results of this study indicate that all data obtained are in good agreement with the law of affinity. Pump head, pump power, and pump efficiency decrease as the decreasing impeller diameter and motor rotation speed. Trimming the impeller to 10%-20% of its original diameter has no impact on pump efficiency. At a diameter of 111 mm, the best efficiency after cutting was 34.85% at a rotational speed of 2850 rpm and 11.27% at a rotating speed of 1500 rpm.
