Abstract

At present, the aviation industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly which is marked by an increasing number of domestic and international flights. Batam City's strategic geographic position, directly adjacent to Singapore and Malaysia, makes Batam City a tourist destination or transit point to neighboring countries. Batam City is also included in the Free Trade Zone area, because it has a diverse industrial base and high economic value, thereby stimulating potential investors to visit Batam City. Therefore, an airport is needed to be able to provide an image that is safe, comfortable, in harmony with the culture and environment of Batam City. The design method used in designing the objects is design thinking method with data collection techniques by way of interviews, observation, and literature studies related to objects. Through these data, data analysis is carried out, so that an appropriate design concept is obtained and is able to meet the needs of the user. As a gateway for tourists and investors, both local and international, the existence of an airport that supports passenger needs, in this case the effectiveness of time, comfort, and having aesthetic appeal, is something important. The concept adopted is a green design with local cultural nuances. The application of the green design concept aims to reduce the environmental impact and climate change from airport activities, so as to increase passenger comfort while at the airport. Through this concept, it is hoped that it can improve quality and maximize the function of Hang Nadim International Airport as one of the international standard airports and can become a representative for introducing the local culture of Batam City.
