Abstract

Penduduk Indonesia menyumbang sampah sebesar 150-184/kg/orang.tahun.

Indonesian population contributes waste of 150-184 /kg / person. per year. Most of the waste in Indonesia is dominated by food waste with a percentage of 44% and in East Java 49.08%. Unmanaged food waste will lead to problems such as health problems, social problems, and environmental problems. Composting is a solution to food waste processing. Composting itself is divided into 2 according to oxygen supply, namely sufficient oxygen availability (aerobic) and fermentation (anaerobic). Composting is divided into two methods, namely windrow composting or conventionally and in-vessel composting. The in-vessel composting method is a method of composting in a reactor into a method used on a large or medium scale. This method can make compost in a fast time. Factors that can speed up composting are aeration and turning. This study aims to examine the effect of turning and aeration on compost quality and leachate. The variation of aeration used is 1 L of air / minute and 1.5 L of air / minute. The variety of turning used is once every 5 days and every 10 days. The parameters of the observed compost are moisture content, total carbon content, total nitrogen content kjeldahl, C/N ratio, temperature, pH, and compost height. The parameters of leachate water observed are COD value and leachate quantity. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the presence of aeration affects the pH value of the compost and the ratio of C / N. The frequency of turning affects the decrease in temperature and pH value. Aeration and turning frequency do not affect the quantity and quality of leachate water.
