Abstract

The tank process plant is an essential part of the industry. It is evident that many industries utilize tank process plants, such as the system control level in the oil and gas industry. Over time, various issues have arisen with the system control level, such as slow dynamic responses to changing conditions. Water Level Control is one of the many systems present in the industrial world. By using this system, there is no need to worry about water overload or lack of water. The Basic Process Control System (BPCS) in the water level tank serves to control the water level in the plant. The plant's water level tank employs a closed-loop control system that utilizes a submersible level sensor and a PLC controller. The control system uses Ziegler-Nichols PID tuning obtained from plant modeling with first-order plus dead-time (FOPDT) and validated with Matlab software modeling, ensuring consistent results between the two models. Subsequently, the Ziegler-Nichols PID tuning equation is calculated. Experiments were then conducted with and without PID tuning, as well as with P, PI, and PID tuning with a setpoint value of 35 cm. The results of the dynamic response characteristic analysis, including maximum overshoot, settling time, and steady-state error, indicated that the PI control type had the smallest values with a maximum overshoot of 8.57%, settling time of 78 seconds, and steady-state error of 3.39%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PI control type is the most suitable for the plant's water level tank.
