Abstract

Karimunjawa water is a region that has many tourist destinations, and one of the most tourists favorites activities is diving. This is can be categorized as a threat considering the possibilities contaminations of coral reefs by tourists and the sea transportation that transports them. Karimunjawa In 1999 were designated as a National Park. However, this does not prevent other unrelated ships, especially barges, from entering Karimunjawa waters and causing damage to coral reefs due to the ship run aground. In conducting this research, the Formal Safety Assessment (FSA) method was used to reduce the risk of the coral reef. Based on the historical data shows that from 2017 until 2023 there are already 14 case of Vessel grounding in Karimunjawa. The results of this study shows that based on the calculation conducted by IWRAP Mk2 shows that the frequency of grounding in Karimunjawa is 3.736 incidents/year. The Mitigation is indicate that AIS and Radar feature should be applied to the Karimunjawa VTS so that the data collection of incoming ships could be recorded automatically and no more ships would not be recorded because they did not make mandatory reports. Karimunjawa zoning map shows that the current shipping route passes through many coral reef areas and the distance between the shipping route and the zoning area beside also tends to be too close. Proposed shipping route also obtained as a recommendation because according to windrose data it has less possibility of experiencing drifting grounding than the current shipping route. Based on the calculation of Grounding frequency by IWRAP Mk2 after AIS, Radar, and New shipping route implemented as the selected RCO, it is obtained that the frequency decreased from 3.736 incidents/year to 0.961 incidents/year.
