Abstract

According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, it is estimated that there are around 3,750,000 people or 1.5% of the total population in Indonesia who are included in the blind group. In daily activities, blind people usually get help from special sticks that are useful as a navigation tool in determining the direction of the road as well as a tool to get information about the situation in front of them. However, special canes for the visually impaired, which have met the standards, are still very limited in motion because they do not recognize or detect obstacles from a certain distance. Apart from that, there are many cases where blind people get lost while walking in a new environment. Therefore, the author made research or design tools that can detect objects or obstacles from a certain distance and create a system for sending help messages as well as sending the latest location to the closest family or companions. The implementation of this research is in the form of an ESP32-based blind stick where 2 ultrasonic and infrared sensors have been installed, ultrasonic sensors can detect upper objects with a distance of less than 105 cm whose output is in the form of sound from a buzzer then infrared is able to detect lower objects or obstacles as far as 50 cm then for obstacles such as road holes can detect at a depth of holes of more than 4 cm while sleeping police can detect at a height of 5 cm with a surface steep. Then the average difference in time needed by push buttons when making short calls is 8.905 seconds and sending help messages takes an average time of 19.19583 seconds.
