Abstract

The lives of orphans were always painted to be sorrowful. They experience negative psychological issues such as, fear, depression, anxiety, even sense of abandonment after losing their parents or cargiver. Moreover, the orphanages in Indonesia were usually designed as institutional surroundings that only cares for their formal education without considering their other psychological needs. To prevent these negative psychological issues, growing children needs more care than just education, they had to grow using more of their senses to interact with their surroundings, to help distract them from the trauma of losing their parents. A Multisensory environment can provide them with positive distraction, enabling them to connect better with their surroundings and other people and also shed positive lights where they interact with the world around them. Nature can provide the stimulation they need in orphanages. This is done by incorporating biophilic methods to the design of the orphanages. By creating a stimulating environment with natural elements and implementing them on formal, spatial, and layout of the orphanage, hopefully will lessen the negative psychological issues that affect orphans.
