Abstract

Di era modern saat ini, refrigerasi menjadi hal yang sangat diminati oleh masyarakat luas, baik di kalangan industri maupun rumah tangga. Sistem refrigerasi yang banyak dijumpai adalah jenis sistem refrigerasi single stage. Terdapat sebuah improvement dari sistem refrigerasi yang dikenal dengan nama sistem refrigerasi cascade yang dapat meningkatkan nilai coefficient of performance dari sebuah sistem refrigerasi. Reefer container merupakan salah satu penerapan dari sistem refrigerasi namun memiliki konsumsi energi yang cukup tinggi. PCM dapat dijadikan sebagai metode alternatif yang cukup efektif untuk mengatasi konsumsi energi yang berlebih tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kinerja termal sistem refrigerasi hibrid kombinasi antara cascade vapour compression dan PCM dibandingkan dengan sistem refrigerasi cascade vapour compression konvensional yang diaplikasikan pada eco-reefer container. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu terdapat perbedaan antara kinerja sistem refrigerasi cascade hibrid menggunakan PCM dengan sistem refrigerasi cascade konvensional. Pada sistem cascade hibrid membutuhkan waktu yang lebih lama untuk mencapai suhu -11oC. Hal ini dapat terjadi dikarenakan terdapat beban PCM yang perlu didinginkan oleh sistem cascade hibrid sehingga memengaruhi kinerja sistem refrigerasi. Sedangkan pada sistem cascade konvensional, membutuhkan waktu yang lebih cepat untuk mencapai suhu -11oC dikarenakan beban yang didinginkan tidak sebanyak beban sistem cascade hibrid yang menggunakan PCM. Sistem refrigerasi cascade hibrid memiliki nilai coefficient of performance (COP) yang lebih tinggi dan lebih hemat dalam hal konsumsi energi/daya dibandingkan dengan sistem refrigerasi cascade konvensional. Pada capaian suhu maksimal, nilai coefficient of performance (COP) yang didapatkan oleh sistem cascade hibrid dan sistem cascade konvensional berturut-turut adalah 5,51 dan 3,12.

In today's modern era, refrigeration is something that is in great demand by the wider community, both in industry and households. The refrigeration system that is widely found is a type of single stage refrigeration system. There is an improvement of the refrigeration system known as the cascade refrigeration system that can increase the coefficient of performance of a refrigeration system. Reefer container is one of the applications of the refrigeration system but has a fairly high energy consumption. PCM can be used as an alternative method that is effective enough to overcome the excessive energy consumption. This study aims to analyze the thermal performance of a hybrid refrigeration system combined between cascade vapour compression and PCM compared to a conventional cascade vapour compression refrigeration system applied to an eco-reefer container. The result of this research is that there is a difference between the performance of a hybrid cascade refrigeration system using PCM and a conventional cascade refrigeration system. The hybrid cascade system requires a longer time to reach a temperature of -11oC. This can occur because there is a PCM load that needs to be cooled by the hybrid cascade system so that it affects the performance of the refrigeration system. Whereas in a conventional cascade system, it takes a faster time to reach a temperature of -11oC because the load being cooled is not as much as the load of a hybrid cascade system using PCM. The hybrid cascade refrigeration system has a higher coefficient of performance (COP) value and is more efficient in terms of energy/power consumption compared to the conventional cascade refrigeration system. At maximum temperature achievement, the coefficient of performance (COP) values obtained by the hybrid cascade system and conventional cascade system are 5,51 and 3,12, respectively.
