Abstract

Museums are a building typology that is common to be visited once or twice in a lifetime, thus museums seem to lack visitors. Some of the things that underlie this phenomenon are the museum's monotonous presentation, as well as the reduction in the sharpness of human hostages due to the high exposure to virtual materials by technology. Thus, there is an urgency to present a richer and more varied museum experience. The design approaches consist of the ideas of parallel materiality, narrative architecture, and experiential architecture. The big idea entitled "Future Parallelism" is the focus of this design, especially considering that the framework used is a Concept-Based Framework. The idea is rooted in the hypothesis as a response to the context which is the focus of the design, with the design process starting with mapping related to the museum narrative, experimentation with the presence of human sensory elements at design stages such as mass composition and application of materials to design objects, literature studies, sketches, and others. Future Parallelism itself is a parallel experience regarding the simulation of the future that becomes the narrative of the museum. Meanwhile, the narrative presented in the museum is a narrative in the form of a manifestation of the impact of global climate change in the future, which consists of two sides of the narrative: utopia and dystopia. The integration of narrative, various hostages involved, and materials –both real and virtual– creates a parallel experience through optical illusions with 1) dramatic formal design, 2) structural aspects with reflective materials to give an optical illusion experience, 3) contrasting utility elements, and 4) narrative accentuation in museum space through material manipulation and involvement of the environment outside the site.
