Abstract

Tectonic setting of Indonesia is surrounded by 3 plates tectonic, Indo-Australia, Eurasia, and Pacific plate. Indonesia territory is an active area with high seismic level. The strongest ever recorded by seismic observation was Mw 9.15 Aceh occurred on 2004. Many destructive earthquakes occurred in Sumatra; however, Java Island also experienced earthquakes afterwards. Moreover, there is an absence of earthquake in Java, but many earthquakes in land. BMKG recorded another strong earthquake after 2 years, tectonic earthquake occurred at south of Java Island, Western Java with a strength of Mw 6.8, namely Pangandaran earthquake. The latest was Cianjur earthquake with a strength of Mw 5.6. Mitigation is needed in order to reduce the risk of natural disaster, even to eliminate the impacts that may be caused by natural disasters. Natural disasters such as earthquake can accelerate the deformation process. GPS could be an option for mitigation because GPS able to monitor and analyze deformation in real-time, even when the earthquake occurred. Result of the research show the horizontal velocity displacement varies, the range of horizontal velocity displacement of CORS stations is 19.59 mm/year – 31.09 mm/year from 2017-2022, affected by Sunda Block movement. After Sunda Block Model Reduction, the range of the value is varying from 0.15 mm/year until 6.96 mm/year. Strain analysis in western side of Java, several stations on the east majority experiencing more compression than extension. The result of strain analysis generates maximum shear strain and dilatation rate. This research result can be taken into consideration and contributed to the seismic hazard analysis as part of disaster mitigation in western java in the future.
