Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the equivalence of pediatric anthropomorphic phantom with real tissue on a thorax Computed Tomography (CT) Scan examination, evaluating the effect of manual mode and Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) on dose in pediatric anthropomorphic phantom aged 12 years, and evaluating the effect of manual mode and AEC on image quality (noise, signal to noise ratio) in a 12 years old pediatric anthropomorphic phantom. This research uses Multi Slice Computed Tomography (MSCT) Scan 128 slices for dose data acquisition and image quality. In manual mode the voltage used is 90, 100, and 120 kV and a fixed current of 200 milliamperes second (mAs) and a voltage of 120 kV with a current of 78, 199, and 298 mAs, in AEC mode a voltage value of 120 kV is used and there is a current adjustment tube. Based on the HU value, the pediatric thoracic anthropomorphic phantom made by the researchers corresponds to the real tissue for all organs except for the heart, ribs, and spinal cord because the values differ from the patient's reference values. The effect of manual mode and AEC on the dose is that the greater the value of the tube voltage and current, the higher the resulting dose value. The AEC mode produces a lower dose value of 10.7 mGy compared to the manual mode which is 14.2 mGy. The effect of manual mode and AEC on image quality is that the greater the value of the tube voltage and current, the lower the image quality. The AEC mode produces a low SNR value of -25.9 compared to the manual mode of -24.7.
