Abstract

Selama beberapa dekade, mesin diesel telah menjadi tulang punggung utama untuk industri maritim dan dengan tren yang terus meningkat untuk energi terbarukan, bahan bakar diesel campuran metanol digunakan untuk mengurangi konsumsi solar. Namun dengan keterbatasannya, dikembangkan cara lain untuk menggunakan methanol pada mesin diesel, salah satunya dengan injeksi. Rancangan dan pengembangan port methanol injeksi dibuat menggunakan Arduino sebagai basis sistem kontrolnya, dengan penambahan relay, driver motor, dan konverter DC-DC. Selanjutnya, untuk sistem penghantaran metanol, dipilih juga pompa, reservoir, dan injektor. Untuk menguji validitas sistem dilakukan pengujian mesin dengan menggunakan sistem yang sudah dibuat. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi dual fuel sukses dengan mesin mengalami peningkatan performa dan menggunakan lebih dari 90 persen volume bahan bakar dengan metanol. Namun demikian, terjadi penurunan efisiensi energi mesin akibat sifat injeksi tidak langsung yang menyebabkan pembakaran tidak sempurna

For decades, diesel engines have become the main backbone for maritime industry and with ever growing increase in trend for renewable energy, methanol blended diesel fuel is used to reduce diesel consumption. But with its limitation, another way to use methanol in diesel engine is ventured, one of which is injection. A design and development on methanol port injection is made using Arduino as base for the control system, with the addition of relay, motor driver, and DC-DC converter. Furthermore, for methanol delivery system, a pump, a reservoir, and an injector also chosen. To test the validity of the system, an engine testing is done using already made system. It shows that the dual fuel modification is a success with the engine has an increase in performance and uses more than 90 percent of fuel volume with methanol. Nevertheless, there is a decrease in engine energy efficiency due to the nature of port injection which cause uncomplete combustion.
