Abstract

The operation of submarines, which is predominantly carried out underwater, leads to inevitable corrosion, particularly on the pressure hull structure. Corrosion can diminish the structural integrity, thereby affecting the submarine's operational capabilities according to design criteria. To determine the structural strength limitations of the corrosion-affected submarine, an analysis of fatigue life on the pressure hull is necessary. This study aims to simulate the thinning effect caused by corrosion on the surface of the pressure hull and penetration components. The simulation is conducted using Finite Element Method (FEM) based software on a model of the corrosion-affected submarine pressure hull. Based on the research findings from the corrosion-affected pressure hull model, it was observed that there was a 0.67% increase in total deformation, a 38.44% increase in equivalent stress, a complete reduction in fatigue life of up to 100%, and a decrease in safety factor values by up to 28.06%
