Abstract

Radiation protection is a very vital issue in the operation of radiology installations in hospitals. In practice, BAPETEN mandates medical physicists as the main supervisor in carrying out their duties as radiation protection officers. Therefore, this research was conducted with the intent and purpose of assisting medical physicists at X hospital in reviewing dose restrictions at the hospital. The main focus in this study is to determine the background radiation value and model the radiation scattering of CT scan X-rays in the control room so that medical exposure considerations received by the patient's companion/family when accompanying the patient (pediatric/elderly) can be minimized. However, as the research progresses, there is a finding of a significant increase in background radiation in the control room so that this can be indicated as a suspected radiation contamination. The tools and materials in this study are the installation of a CT scan X-ray machine (including wall shields), survey meters, meter rolls, and laptops. In the data processing process, this study uses numerical analysis methods starting from presenting data to drawing conclusions, even predicting possibilities with modeling. The results obtained in this study are the average value of background radiation ranging from 0.0908–0.1227 µSv/h; prediction of indications of radiation contamination in polynomial regression up to order-4; CT scan X-ray radiation scattering modeling with contour and particle simulation; and absorption shielding sensitivity values in the range of 0.105–0.110 µSv/h.
