Abstract

Geophysical methods are considered effective in identifying the presence of underground rivers. The geophysical approach applied in this study involves recording three-component microtremor data at measurement points located from Luweng Dawung-Luweng Musuk, in Sekar Village, Donorojo District, Pacitan. The research principle is based on the analysis of particle motion using PCA (Principal Component Analysis), which characterizes elliptical ground motion. The obtained parameters include eigenvalues, eigenvectors, rectilinearity (L) values, dip values, and azimuth values, which serve as the basis for modeling particle motion to map underground rivers. The mapping of the underground river is based on the direction of particle motion plotted on the horizontal component to determine the continuity of the underground river. Meanwhile, the eigenvalue and rectilinearity (L) parameters are mapped to investigate their relationship with the presence of underground rivers. Based on the processing results, the pattern of underground river continuity appears to be oriented from the northeast to the southwest (NE-SW). The correlation between particle motion and direct mapping results indicates that the orientation of particle motion is perpendicular to the identified source of vibrations, which is the underground river. However, the mapping results of eigenvalues and rectilinearity (L) show no correlation with the presence of underground rivers.
