Abstract

In this study, ultrasonic waves were used in two reactions, namely the aluminum-water reaction to increase the reaction rate and hydrogen capacity and electrolysis to reduce the overpotential value. The aluminum-water reaction was carried out at three temperature variations, namely room temperature, 50oC and 65oC. At each temperature NaOH catalyst was given with concentrations of 0.3M, 0.5M, 0.75M, 1M, and 2M. The aluminum used is aluminum scrap. The rest of the reaction is necessary to understand the phenomena that occur. In the aluminum-water reaction, a higher reaction rate constant value is obtained in the reaction that generates ultrasonic waves. SEM-EDX results show that the surface is more destroyed when ultrasonic waves are applied to the reaction. The use of ultrasonic waves in the aluminum-water reaction produces a more dominant boehmite (AlOOH) phase. This can be observed in the results of the XRD and FTIR tests. The hydrogen concentration value is used to ensure that hydrogen is being produced. In addition, the overpotential value in the electrolysis reaction decreases when given ultrasonic waves.
