Abstract

Heart disease is a disease that involves the cardiovascular system or blood vessels, which is a condition when the heart is disturbed. To determine heart activity, an ECG (electrocardiogram) is needed. ECG is an electronic medical device for measuring the bioelectrical potential caused by the electrical activity of the heart muscle. The signal captured by the electrode is called the hearts bioelectrical signal. The ECG can be used as a very useful diagnostic as it provides information about the cardiovascular system. In addition, heart rate variability (HRV) derived from ECG data reflects autonomic nervous system activity and mental status. However, despite technological advances and the miniaturization of electronics, the use of ECG still needs to be improved due to the inconvenience of conventional wet electrodes placed on the patients skin. This hydrogel contains nickel particles and acrylic adhesive, which can irritate the patients skin. Recently there have been many developments in methods of monitoring heart signals using an electrocardiograph (ECG) using capacitive electrodes placed on objects closely related to daily human activities, such as chairs, bathtubs, and toilet seats. Therefore, electrocardiographic instrumentation with a dry electrode made of conductive fabric was designed in the hope that the results of this study could become an alternative electrode for electrocardiographic instrumentation that can be used in the long term because dry electrodes can reduce irritation to the skin. This research was evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively. The qualitative evaluation results show that the ECG signals provide information about the morphology of the ECG waveform. However, not all data acquisition positions yielded good results. The supine and right lateral positions ECG signal recordings showed the most optimal results, with an average error of approximately 0.0224 or around 2.24%; the left lateral position had the highest average error, approximately 0.872 or around 87.2%.
