Abstract

Audiometry is a procedure used to detect the presence or absence of hearing loss. Audiometric tests are generally carried out with a conventional audiometer which in practice uses the yes/no method and is carried out in an audiometric booth. Whereas in this study the audiometric test was carried out using a portable audiometer that applied the three alternative forced choice (3AFC) method and was carried out in an open space. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of a portable audiometer using head and neck cancer patients. This research was conducted on 12 participants whose hearing was monitored using conventional and portable audiometer tests. Monitoring was carried out before chemotherapy (baseline test) and then continued every one week after the chemotherapy drugs were given until the 6th chemotherapy. From the results of the audiograms of the two audiometers, a comparative test was carried out with the Wilcoxon Sign-Rank Test and it was found that the portable audiometer had a significant difference with the conventional audiometer at a frequency of 500 and 8000 Hz. Then the results of the diagnostic test show that the ability of the portable audiometer to classify someone who is sick (sensitivity) is 82% and the ability of the portable audiometer to classify someone who is not sick (specificity) is 87%.
