Abstract

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the occurrence of reflux or rising gastric contents into the esophagus, respiratory tract and even the oral cavity due to decreased lower esophageal sphincter (LES) tone which cannot close completely. Magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) is a treatment for GERD which is made of a ring of titanium beads with a magnetic core that surrounds the distal esophagus to support the LES to prevent reflux. The type force test was carried out by simulation using ANSYS Product 2019 R3 and the manufacturing model used Autodesk Inventor Professional 2023. The test was carried out by comparing the number of N35 magnetic beads 10, 12, 14 and 16 pieces and comparing the outer diameter of the magnetic beads 0.5 times and 2 times the normal size. The magnetic force simulation results with the enclosure box have more consistent and relevant results, even though the magnitude of the magnetic force does not match the reference value. The average magnetic expansion and contraction forces increased by 0.02 N and 0.04 N with the addition of 2 magnetic beads. The average magnetic expansion force is 0.5 times, once and twice the normal size, namely 0.05 N, 0.19 N, and 0.25 N. The average magnetic contraction force is 0.5 times, once and twice the normal size, including 0.05 N, 0.28 N and 0.29 N. The greater the number and size of the magnets, the greater the magnetic force produced.
