Abstract

Designing a supply chain network is a strategic decision involving determining the quantity, location, and capacity of each structure within the supply chain. An efficient supply chain distribution network model can minimize operational costs in meeting customer needs with the right quantity, location, and timing. This Final Project implements a multi-echelon distribution network model for multi-products tailored to the real conditions of PT X's branch in Surabaya. PT X is a distributor company for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). Since 2022, the company has flour and cooking oil that need to be distributed to customers through commodity warehouses located in several locations. The current situation is that the company has four commodity warehouses in the Surabaya region and serves nearly 12,000 outlets. The determination of the quantity and location of these warehouses is only based on population density, which may not be optimal in terms of cost. Therefore, an optimization is conducted to determine the optimal quantity, location, and allocation of products from the commodity warehouses with minimal cost. The candidate locations considered are the existing four locations of commodity warehouses and 16 candidate locations previously rented by the company for other products. This problem is solved using Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and K-Means Clustering for clustering outlets into clusters and determining the center points of these clusters. The 12,000 outlets are clustered into 906 new location points. The center points of the clusters will be used as input data for determining the distances from the outlets to the commodity warehouses. Subsequently, an optimization is performed using MILP to determine the optimal quantity and location of commodity warehouses with the lowest cost. Based on the optimization results, this final project recommends that PT X should open only one warehouse located in Sidoarjo to serve the outlets in the Surabaya region. This decision provides a logistics cost efficiency of 36%, equivalent to Rp 1.488.866.286,30. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine how sensitive transportation costs, rental costs, capacity, and demand are to the optimal cost. The most sensitive parameter is demand.
