Abstract

Synthesis of mesoporous aluminosilicate using two template combinations CTAB and lerak has been successfully carried out. In this study mesoporous aluminosilicate was synthesized by hydrothermal method using metakaolin and Ludox precursor as a source of silica and alumina. The hydrothermal process was carried out at 100 °C with variations in hydrothermal time of 24, 48 and 72 hours. The wide angle XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis results show a wide mound at 2θ around 15-30° indicating the existance of an amorphous phase, with peak intensity increasing with the length of hydrothermal time. The FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectrum shows absorption peaks at wave numbers 1095 cm-1 and 966 cm-1 which indicate vibrations of Si-O-Si and Si-OH as characteristic spectra of mesoporous aluminosilicate materials, respectively. The morphology of the SEM shows the formation of agglomeration which is clearer with the length of hydrothermal time. TGA/DTG thermographic analysis showed three stages of mass loss. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption profile shows an isotherm of adsorption type IV which indicates the formation of mesoporous. The largest surface area (SBET), mesoporous surface area (SMeso) and mesoporous volume were obtained in dual template mesoporous aluminosilicate samples with a hydrothermal time of 24 hours, namely 283.97 m2/g, 229,79 m2/g, and 0,643 cm3/g. This shows that the hydrothermal time affects the intensity, surface area, and pores of the mesoporous aluminosilicate sample.
