Abstract

The surrounding environment is experiencing environmental pollution, especially in the water, caused by the discharge of untreated liquid waste from the tofu industry. The untreated liquid waste, when disposed of without prior treatment, can lead to environmental contamination, particularly in water bodies. This is mainly due to the lack of affordable and easily operated liquid waste treatment systems. This research aims to investigate whether the electrocoagulation method can reduce the turbidity level in tofu wastewater and the influence of electric current strength in reducing the turbidity level of industrial tofu wastewater. The methods utilized are electrocoagulation and filtration. A control system is developed using the Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller, with the DFRobot SEN0189 Turbidity sensor employed to detect the turbidity value of the waste. A water sensor is used to detect water level, while the actuator used is a water pump connected to a relay. The research findings demonstrate that the electrocoagulation method is capable of reducing the turbidity level in tofu wastewater. The electric current strength also affects the efficiency level of the electrocoagulation method, with higher electric current strength resulting in greater reduction of turbidity within the same contact time. The results showed that the electrocoagulation method was able to reduce the level of turbidity in tofu liquid waste. The value of the electric current used is 5 A, 4,5 A, 4 A, and 3,5 A will affect the level of efficiency in the electrocoagulation method, in the same contact time, the use of a greater value of current strength, has a greater degree of turbidity reduction.
