Abstract

The use of computed tomography (CT)-scans has become common practice in medical diagnosis in Indonesia. However, the number is not matched by the availability of phantoms to evaluate its performance. This final project aims to describe the design, construction, and evaluation of an in-house cylindrical phantom for quality control (QC) of image quality performance on CT-Scan. The phantom was designed with the addition of 24 space matrices to place 12 material samples with different compositions as the development of organ artificial tissues. The image quality measurement results were compared with a standard hospital phantom (RS phantom) with SNR and MTF parameters. The material test was conducted by considering the CT number and relative electron density (RED) of each material. In addition, the effect of voltage and current on image quality was analyzed. Statistical analysis between SNR and MTF of in-house phantoms and RS phantoms showed no significant difference. Then from the analysis of phantom material development carried out, it shows the suitability of several commercial materials to simulate organ tissue with CT number and RED suitability. Reduction of tube current has a significant impact on the quality of the image received. This explains that the use of low tube voltage is more profitable in terms of image quality.
