Abstract

Malnutrition can cause toddlers to be susceptible to disease and stunted body development. Malnutrition occurs when the nutritional needs are not met. Toddlers may experience malnutrition due to an overall lack of nutrients, or they might have an abundance of certain nutrients but insufficient amounts of others. Even a deficiency in a single vitamin or mineral can have serious health consequences for a child's body. Therefore, monitoring the nutritional status of toddlers is crucial. In this study, a system is developed to determine the nutritional status of toddlers based on the body mass index (BMI), which is calculated using the child's weight and height data obtained using a load cell sensor connected to an HX711 module and a rotary encoder sensor. Additionally, a questionnaire is given to the parents to know their eating habits. The BMI calculation and questionnaire results are further processed on a personal computer using Fuzzy Decision Support System method to determine the nutritional status. The output generated includes categories such as poor nutrition, undernutrition, normal, overnutrition, and obesity. The subjects in this study range from 2 to 5 years of age. From the experiments conducted, the load cell sensor used for measuring the weight of the subjects has an accuracy level of 99.18%, with an average error of 0.82%. The rotary encoder sensor used to measure the height has an accuracy level of 99.44% and an average error of 0.56%. The Fuzzy Decision Support System used in this research successfully classified the nutritional status of all subjects accurately.
