Abstract

The analysis of Ni2+ ion interference in the determination of Fe(II) phenanthroline with citric acid, sodium nitrite and hydroxylamine hydrochloride reducers at optimum conditions using UV-vis spectrophotometer has been successfully carried out. The Fe(II) phenanthroline complex has a wavelength at 510 nm for all three reducers. Calibration curve measurements on citric acid reducers had a coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.9979. The sodium nitrite reducer had a coefficient of determination of 0.9974. In reducing hydroxylamine hydrochloride, the calibration curve obtained a coefficient of determination of 0.9998. Ni2+ ions can interfere with Fe(II) phenanthroline analysis by reducing the absorbance of iron. In citric acid reducers, Ni2+ began to interfere when adding Ni2+ ion concentration of 0.2 ppm with %recovery of 94.2418%, while in hydroxylamine hydrochloride reducers, Ni2+ began to interfere at a concentration of 0.08 ppm with %recovery of 94.46%. As for the sodium nitrite reducer, the addition of Ni2+ ion interference cannot be determined at what concentration the addition of Ni2+ ion begins to interfere with the analysis of Fe(II) phenanthroline
