Abstract

Sengon (Paraserianthes falctaria (L.) Nielsen) is a plant that widely used in various industries in Indonesia. In the sengon wood processing industry, waste is produced in the form of sawdust or pieces. Sengon waste has great potential to be processing into products with high selling value such as Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC), since it has a fairly high cellulose content of 45.42%. Production of Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) is carried out by three main processes, namely delignification, hydrolysis, and bleaching. In order to support the sustainability development goals (SDGs) program, it is necessary to modify processes that are more environmentally friendly. In this study, the biodelignification process was carried out using white rot fungi Trametes versiocolor pre-treated with sonication, so that lignin could be degraded. The hydrothermal process method utilizes the subcritical conditions of water so it can be used as an alternative to increase crystallinity of product and could degrade hemicellulose content. The bleaching process using a bleaching agent aims to degrade the remaining lignin or even the lignin monomers produced from the delignification process. In this study, a bleaching agent was added to the hydrothermal process to obtain MCC products using low concentrations of chemicals. The results obtained from this study were the composition of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose, crystallinity of product, SEM results, Pyrolysis GC-MS results, and FTIR results
