Abstract

Malnutrition in children under five in Indonesia is reaching a crisis condition with stunting and wasting prevalence that exceeds the Asian average. This situation requires efficient and innovative interventions to prevent long-term impacts on children`s cognitive development and physical health. This study proposes an Internet of Things (IoT)-based malnutrition monitoring information system designed to address the problem of inaccurate manual child growth data recording methods in malnutrition monitoring and intervention. IoT devices in the form of toddler scales were utilized and controlled by the ESP32 microcontroller. Anthropometric data was collected and sent to the MySQL database, where the trigger function calculated Body Mass Index (BMI), classified nutritional status, and provided dietary recommendations. This information was then displayed on the web application in the form of tables and graphs, making it easy for admins, health practitioners, and caregivers to understand and monitor the nutritional status of toddlers. The web application was developed using the Laravel framework and MySQL database. This web application used the BMI Z-score to detect malnutrition in toddlers. Tests for sending IoT data showed that data transmission was successful with an average delay time of 1512.3 ms. Testing of use cases showed that the web application functioned properly and according to end user usage scenarios. Based on testing of the subject, the web application was considered to meet the needs of users to monitor toddler growth and nutritional status with a score of 4.82 from caregivers, 4.86 from health practitioners, and 4.8 from admins.
