Abstract

The 6061 series aluminum is the main alloying element Al-Mg-Si. In everyday life the use of aluminum is very much including the series. Start consumption as needed for various fields. Aluminum has the property of easily forming corrosion caused by air or water. The lower the value of the corrosion rate, the better. There are various ways to reduce corrosion, one of which is to thicken and cover the coating. Anodizing is the process of forming an oxide layer on aluminum which goes through several stages, namely cleaning, etching, desmut, anodize, dyeing, and sealing. In practice, variations in current and the duration of immersion of the specimen during the anodizing process affect the thickness of the layer formed. Then the test was carried out using the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) testing method. By using SEM testing the aim is to find out which objects are smaller so that they can be analyzed in terms of their effect on the thickness of the layer. To be able to determine the effect of variations in current and time of execution of the test carried out as many as 5 points of the test material. The current strength parameters used in this study were 0.6 amperes, 1 ampere, and 1.4 amperes with different times of 10 minutes, 25 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, and 30 minutes, and a constant voltage of 10V. The results of the coating thickness when testing the insulating properties will be obtained from the megger test. In addition, the SEM test is getting thinner with increasing current and time variations. The results of this study showed that the best anodizing thickness of current 0.6A, 1A, and 1.4A was 8.195 µm, 12.2 µm and 11.270 µm. The best anodizing time for strong anodizing currents of 0.6A, 1A and 1.4A for 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes. So that the higher the current strength and the longer the anodizing time, the lower the layer thickness value will form. From the results of this study it is expected to know the effect of variations in current 0.6-1.4A and time in the anodizing process on the thickness of the 6061 aluminum layer.
