Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is defined as a disease or chronic metabolic disorder characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels accompanied by metabolic disorders of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins due to insulin deficiency. Treatment for diabetics is usually done by taking medications and giving insulin injections to maintain stable blood glucose levels close to normal. This study explains how to control blood glucose levels to be in the desired interval of 3.3−5.6mmol/L. In this research, a method of controlling blood glucose levels within the normal range in patients with Type-1 Diabetes Mellitus is discussed, which is solved using a system of Linear Quadratic Regulator with Ackerman’s blood glucose model as a representation. In this study, Ackerman’s blood glucose model is used by applying one control, namely insulin and two state variables, namely blood glucose levels and the effect of insulin in the body. The constructed mathematical model minimizes the objective function in the form of deviations of blood glucose levels from the desired levels and insulin levels given to patients with Type-1 Diabetes Mellitus. The blood glucose level obtained from the solution with the Linear Quadratic Regulator system is the optimal blood glucose level obtained with the minimum insulin level.
