Abstract

Vaname Shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) are an often cultivated commodity using intensive system. Shrimp production in Indonesia which uses intensive system could cause a rise in organic matter such as nitrogen (N) and phosphor that causes phytoplankton blooms. When phytoplankton blooms are dominated by species that contains toxins and can also endanger human's and other aquatic organism lives, they are usually called harmful algal bloom (HABs). Hence, this research is done to detect phytoplankton species that can cause HABs on vaname shrimp aquaculture ponds that uses intensive system cultivation. Sampling location takes place in Bergas Pond, Lombang Village, District Batang - Batang, Suemenep, Madura, East Java. Phytoplankton sample is taken using plankton net and is given formalin for preservation, also water quality parameter testing covers salinity, nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate. Methods that are used consists of morphology identification and abundance calculation. Data analysis is done using simple linear regression. The result of this research is on January on ponds B5, B6, B7 Entomoneis punctulate was found to have the highest abundance in the order of 1,25 × 103 cell/L, 9,03 × 102 cell/L, dan 1,04 × 103 cell/L. While in March, ponds B5 and B6 Oocystis sp. has the highest abundance in order of 1,61 × 103 cell/L dan 9,03 × 102 cell/L, and in pond B7 Ooscillatoria sp. has the highest abundance at 3,9 × 102 cell/L. Species that has the potential to cause harmful algal blooms (HAB) are Chaetoceros sp., Peridiniopsis sp., Oscillatoria sp. and Lyngbya sp.
