Abstract

Plastic waste that enters the waters decomposes through chemical, physical and biological processes and forms small fragments which are then called microplastics. The problem of microplastics does not only exist in marine biota, marine waters and marine sediments but also occurs in fresh waters. Microplastic pollution in fresh waters can be found in rivers, lakes, swamps, dams and ponds. In pond areas, the presence of microplastics in water bodies has the potential to cause microplastic contamination of farmed animals. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the abundance of microplastics in vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cephalothorax and abdomen, water, and sediment in Benowo Pond, Surabaya. The physical characteristics of microplastics were observed using a stereo microscope with the help of optilab and the chemical characteristics using FTIR-ATR. The results showed that the average total microplastic of 50 vannamei shrimp in the cephalothorax organ was 17.40 particles/gram and the abdominal organs was 14.58 particles/gram. The abundance of microplastics in point 1 water was 4.22 particles/liter and point 2 water was 3.38 particles/liter. At point 1 the abundance in sediment was 3.88 particles/gram and point 2 was 3.3 particles/gram. The most dominant form of microplastic in shrimp, water and sediment is fragment, the dominant color is black and the dominant size is 20-40 µm. Mann Whitney test with sig. 0.007 This result indicates that there is a difference between the abundance of microplastics in the cephalothorax and abdomen. The Pearson correlation test of 0.021 shows that there is no correlation between shrimp length and microplastic abundance. The polymer test gave results on the types of microplastics in their forms, namely Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and Polypropylene (PP).
