Abstract

Water is an essential source of life needs and has many uses. At the end of 2022, there were several complaints from the people of Surabaya regarding the turbidity and reduced water quality due to the contamination from domestic and household waste. These problems increased the urgency of water supply companies in improving their quality, one of which is PDAM Surya Sembada Surabaya. Some characteristics that are considered in water quality are turbidity level, pH value, and remaining KMnO4 substance. This research optimizes coagulant and flocculant doses in the jar test process for water quality using the Taguchi-Grey-Fuzzy method. The grey relational analysis approach is used to overcome the limitations of the Taguchi method in analyzing multi-response variables in this study. The application of fuzzy logic can overcome ambiguity in determining the weights in GRA method. The experimental design used is the orthogonal array L8(4 1 × 2 1 ), serves to minimize the number of experiments performed. This method is expected to produce coagulant and flocculant dosage factor levels that can produce more optimal turbidity levels, pH values, and remaining KMnO4 substance compared to current field conditions. The research showed that the coagulant dosage variable had a significant effect on turbidity level, pH value, and remaining KMnO4 substance. Optimal condition was obtained by setting the coagulant dose to 125 ppm and flocculant dose to 0,02 ppm. The contribution percentage of coagulant dosage is 69,53%.
