Abstract

Butterflies diversity decreased along with decreased diversity of forage plants, which was caused by human activities resulting in changes in natural habitats. Butterflies with sufficient amount of food available will be followed by high butterfly diversity, protected areas and close to natural habitats will have a high evenness of species in the community compared to unprotected habitats. This study aims to determine and compare the diversity of butterflies (suborder: Rhopalocera) in three different habitat types which are fields, forests and rice fields in the agroecosystem area of Jatiarjo village, Prigen, East Java. This research took place from June 2022 to May 2023. The research location is located in the agroecosystem area of Jatiarjo village, Prigen, East Java with coordinates 7°44'19''S and 112°40'50''E. Data analysis was carried out at the Ecology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Data Analytics, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya. Data collection on butterflies in the field was carried out using the Pollard Walk method which was modified by the roaming method, then an inventory of the butterfly feed plants was carried out. Identification was carried out in the field based on the morphology of the butterfly such as general body shape, color and antenna shape. The analysis of the data obtained was carried out in a quantitative descriptive. The agroecosystem area of Jatiarjo Village has the highest species diversity index and butterfly evenness index values in the secondary forest habitat type (H'=3.782 and E=0.923), compared to the paddy field habitat type (H'=3.607 and E=0.922) and field habitat type (H'=3.599 and 0.894). The species composition and abundance of butterfly individuals found were 56 species with 306 individuals in the field habitat type, 60 species with 304 individuals in the forest habitat type, and 43 species with 247 individuals in the paddy field habitat type. Food plants in the field habitat type (36% with 229 individuals), secondary forest habitat (29% with 184 individuals) and paddy field (35% with 226 individuals).
