Abstract

Microplastics are plastic bins that are smaller than 5 mm in size. Microplastics contain chemicals that are toxic and have the potential to be carcinogenic if consumed by an organism, one of which is aquatic organisms, such as catfish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) which is cultivated in floating net cages in Ranu Grati, Pasuruan and is one of the consumption fish. In providing fish feed in the form of pellets, the possibility of contamination of the pellets by microplastics can occur so that the catfish will accidentally accumulate microplastics. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical characteristics of microplastics (size, shape, and color) and their chemical polymers in catfish meat and feed (pellets) cultivated in Ranu Grati, Pasuruan, East Java. The physical characteristics of microplastics were observed using a stereo microscope with the help of optilab, while the chemical (polymer) characteristics were observed with FTIR. The total abundance of microplastics at the three water sampling locations was 680 particles, with an average proportion of 28 particles/L at point 1 (inside KJA) 12.7 particles/L at point 2 (outside KJA) and 27.3 particles/L at point 3 (middle of Rnu Grati). The size of microplastics in water sampling at point 1 (inside the KJA) is dominated by the range of 251-500 µm and 1001-2000 µm, at point 2 (outside the KJA) is dominated by 251-500 µm and 101-250 µm, at point 3 (middle of Rnu Grati ) dominated by 1001-2000 µm, 251-500 µm, 101-250 µm, and 501-750 µm. Microplastic in the form of black fibers dominated the water samples at point 1 (inside the KJA), point 2 (outside the KJA) and 3 (middle of Rnu Grati). In 25 samples of Patin Fish meat, a total of 447 microplastic particles were obtained. Microplastics in the catfish meat samples were dominated by fragments and fibers, blue in color, with a size range of 101-250 µm, and the polymers found were Nylons. Whereas in 5 pellet samples A (floating type) a total of 147 microplastic particles were obtained, dominated by blue fragments with a size range of 100-500 µm, and the polymers found were Nylons. In pellet B (submerged type) a total of 157 microplastic particles were obtained which were played by the shape of blue fragments with a size range of 100-500 µm, and the polymers found were Nylons
