Abstract

Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a network technology composed of a collection of mobile nodes that are connected wirelessly and do not require any infrastructure to configure the network. In MANET, there are several popular protocols such as Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR). Route discovery in AODV protocol is done reactively with respect to the next hop In the routing table at each node. For the DSDV protocol, route discovery is carried out proactively by updating the table at each node which is equpped with sequence numbers. In the DSR protocol however, route discovery is done reactively by using source routing that is updated on each node.
In this study, a comparative analysis of the performance of AODV, DSDV and DSR protocols was carried out by considering the average throughput, instant throughput, residual energy and packet delivery ratio values using the same node scenario.
The simulation results show that the differences in the performance of the AODV, DSDV and DSR protocols are not significant for small networks.
