Abstract

Karimunjawa is an archipelago in the Java Sea, known for its stunning natural beauty and rich marine life with 27 islands, including Karimunjawa Island as the main one, it has become a popular tourist destination, both for locals and foreigners. However, the high cost of renting private boats for island hopping has been a challenge. To address this, a Waterbus will be designed as part of a Final Project, providing an affordable and convenient means for tourists to explore the smaller islands and enjoy their beauty freely, enchanching their overall experience in Karimunjawa. The aim of this Final Project is to obtain the main dimensions, the operational scheme, and the design of the waterbus, which will be an alternative transportation for tourists to enjoy Karimunjawa instead of renting local boat which may be more expensive. The design method used in the process is the iterative design approach by optimizing the total passengers payload and the total payload area. This waterbus will using High Density Poly-Ethylene (HDPE) as the material because of its price and environmental-friendliness factors advantages. Based on the result, the ship is designed to have 20 passengers and 3 crew members, with the LoA: 16 m; LPP: 14 m; B: 4 m; H; 2.3 m; T: 0.9 m; and Service Speed (Vs): 10 knots. The waterbus design comply the technical requirements and the statutory regulations. The operational scheme of the Waterbus in Karimunjawa Archipelago includes four departure points: Karimunjawa Port, Menjangan Kecil Island, Gleyang Island, and Cemara Besar Island, with a return to Karimunjawa Port. The Waterbus operates four daily trips, lasting approximately 1.5 hours each. The result of investment feasability calculation are obtained with a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp490,667,630.00 and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 25%, and the payback period for the investment is 3 years, 5 months, 11 days.
