Abstract

The earth is experiencing global warming due to the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere such as CO2 dan CH4 gases which are produced by the industrial sector, transportation activities, dan agricultural dan livestock activities. For this reason, mitigation efforts are needed to reduce global temperature rise. Mangrove forests have high primary productivity, so they are known as good carbon stores (carbon sequestrators). This ability plays a vital role in climate mitigation regulation which is used to absorb CO2 anthropogenic emissions. North Bontang Loktuan Urban Village, East Kalimantan has a mangrove forest in Telok Bangko and the HGB area. On the other hand, this urban village is an area surrounded by industrial dan residential areas that have the potential to produce CO2 emissions. For this reason, this study aimed to obtain information on biomass, carbon stock estimation, carbon absorption estimation, and the diversity of mangrove tree species that have possible stock carbon in the Telok Bangko dan HGB area. Sampling was carried out using the crossed quadrant transect method. At each location, the transect was carried out four times. Each transect has four crossed quadrants measuring 10 m x 10 m. Calculation of estimated stored biomass in mangroves using allometric equations. Next, estimates of stock carbon, and carbon absorption are calculated. These results will be presented quantitatively descriptively. From this study, it was found that the composition of the mangroves in the Telok Bangko and HGB area found 11 species, namely Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia marina, Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia ovata, Derris trifoliata, Ceriops tagal, Lumnitzera racemosa, Xylocarpus granatum, Terminalia xii catappa, Thespesia populnea, and Wedelia biflora. The results of estimating the stock carbon of the mangrove ecosystem in Telok Bangko were 2236.36 tonnes/ha with a biomass value of 4819.74 tonnes/ha. While in the HGB area, the results of stock carbon were 2980.48 tonnes/ha with a biomass value of 6423.44 tonnes/ha. Estimated carbon absorption in Telok Bangko obtained 8207.44 tonnes/ha. Meanwhile, carbon absorption in HGB area was 10,938.35 tonnes/ha. Rhizophora mucronata is the species that gives the highest contribution.
