Abstract

Risk communication in mining operations currently does not fully integrate safety management systems with user-centered communication platforms. This research explores the system requirements for an effective risk communication medium based on mobile applications. The design thinking stage was developed with a structured interview method that grouped data sources from 10 participants classified into 3 levels of employees: management, supervisors, and field operations. Through the empathize stage, network analysis of 8 need factors, and comparison of problem findings on the user journey map, it was found that the management group had a total of 48 problem findings, 19 supervisors, and 8 operational findings. The define stage produced a clustering analysis of problem findings that proved no systematic information dissemination system and mechanics. Through the ideating process, the problem was translated into innovative concepts in the form of system diagrams to prototype designs with registration, login, and content-sharing features, which were tested on 10 participants. The test phase was conducted using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The final score of 71 indicates that the system design provides a good user experience and exceeds expectations. The results of analyzing participant feedback, illustrate that management responses require in-depth discussions related to system implementation, supervisor responses suggest adding training features, and operational responses like the attractive and easy-to-use appearance of the application. Overall, this research provides a better understanding of user needs and a strong foundation for further development.
