Abstract

In this study, an analysis of the PD characteristics of polymer insulators was carried out under the influence of thermal and acoustic emission-based contaminants. The aim of this study is to compare the PD characteristics between insulators with and without contaminants. The contaminants used are fly ash and salt with various variations based on ESDD and NSDD on the insulator surface. The conductivity level of each variation of contaminant based on ESDD and NSDD is measured to determine the level of contamination. Tests are carried out using thermal and acoustic cameras at certain voltage levels. The simulation results show that contaminants do not have a significant effect on changes in temperature and acoustic emissions in the insulators tested. The highest temperature on insulators without and with insulators at a voltage of 20 kV is 32ºC respectively. In general, the acoustic emission value in dB increases as the voltage increases. Likewise, the higher the level of contamination, the higher the temperature and acoustic emissions in the test insulator
