Abstract

Clay Shale generally consists of thin layered layers with irregular fractions, very slippery, and easily separated along the plane of the layer. After being exposed to sunlight, air, and water for a relatively short time, the clay shale will weather. The construction of the Serang Panimbang Toll Road Section III was carried out by cutting the hill and filling it (cut and fill) according to the planned contours. After cutting, the material that becomes the subgrade undergoes changes in its properties and mechanical characteristics because it is suspected that the subgrade is a weathered clay shale or commonly called Weathered Clay Shale. This research aims to determine the effect of Ca(OH)2 lime addition to the soil and the length of curing time to increase the bearing capacity of weathered clay shale soil as subgrade. The soil material used for this research is weathered clay shale soil on the Serang - Panimbang Toll Road Section III STA 57+200. The research was conducted by identifying the initial soil properties, standard proctor testing on soil + lime mixture of 4%, 7%, and 10% with variations in curing time of 0, 7 and 14 days to determine the most optimum soil mixture with Ca(OH)2 lime, then soaked CBR testing with the most optimum lime mixture soil with the same curing time variation when conducting standard proctor testing. The results of research on weathered clayshale initials in terms of the degree of weathering enter the category of highly weathered. From testing soil properties, the initial weathered clayshale belongs to the type of clay high plasticity (CH) with a dry volume weight value of 1.405 gr /cm3. Soils stabilized with 7% Ca(OH)2 lime received the highest maximum dry volume weight value compared to 4% and 10% lime variations with a value of 1.514 gr/cm3. The initial soil immersion CBR value increased by 1.27% to 11.74% when stabilized by a mixture of 7% Ca(OH)2 lime. The CBR value of Soaked laboratory in a mixture of 7% lime Ca(OH)2 increases linearly with the duration of cultivation. Where the CBR value of the Soaked laboratory with 14 days of incuration is 19.35%, the longer the curing period, the greater the CBR value of the Soaked laboratory. The mixture of 7% lime Ca(OH)2 on weathered clayshale soil at STA 57+200 in the construction of the Serang – Panimbang Section III toll road already has a fairly good carrying strength. The carrying capacity achieved has exceeded the requirements of the SPESIFIKASI BINA MARGA REVISI II TAHUN 2018 14 day planting period, where the carrying capacity achieved far exceeds the minimum carrying strength requirements of selected urug soil.
