Abstract

This research develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-based environmental and air monitoring system to enhance the safety and well-being of workers in the mining industry. The system utilizes an MQ-2 sensor to measure the concentrations of LPG, Carbon Monoxide, and smoke in ppm format, along with a DHT11 sensor to monitor air temperature and humidity. The NEO-6M GPS module is employed to track the real-time location of workers. The Arduino UNO and ESP8266 microcontrollers serve as the central brains of the system, collecting data from these sensors and transmitting it to the ThingSpeak platform for visualization and data analysis. ThingSpeak provides an online-accessible interface, enabling direct monitoring of environmental and air conditions at the worksite. The implementation of this system aims to deliver timely and accurate information to both workers and management, facilitating more efficient preventive actions and improvements. Thus, the monitoring system is anticipated to enhance occupational safety and worker health in the mining industry through more effective surveillance of environmental and air conditions.
