Abstract

Karst is postgenetic when karstification occurs after the formation of the rock, whereas it is syngenetic when both processes occur simultaneously. Exploration and characterization of karst reservoirs have relied on geological mapping, core analysis, log data, and seismic data. However, these methodologies frequently resulted in inadequate resolution and a limited comprehension of the complex karst features. The combination of 3D seismic data and well data presents a promising approach for delineating karst features. Karst-related features can be identified and mapped through the qualitative methods and for quantitative methods employ advanced data analysis techniques, such as statistical methods, to proceed deeper into the capabilities of quantitative analysis in producing more accurate and detailed karst maps. The objectives of this study encompass the delineation and characterization of karst features through the integration of qualitative and quantitative methods. Two horizons, Top Cycle V Carbonate and Lower Cycle V Carbonate, are employed along with five attributes, including geomorphology, porosity, and discontinuity. These parameters are utilized in producing a detailed karst map. Following attribute application, numerical values are extracted from surface maps to establish a karst score scale, determining the optimum range for each horizon and attribute. The final step involves generating a karst map in QGIS software based on the cumulative karst score values. Qualitative analysis methods such as well-to-seismic tie, horizon interpretation, subsurface mapping, and seismic attribute analysis are complemented by quantitative analyses, including karst score scale analysis, extraction value processes, normality testing, multiple regression analysis, and Spearman’s Rho Correlation. This comprehensive approach enhances the overall interpretive capabilities for delineating karst features, offering a solid foundation for future studies. The combination of qualitative and quantitative analyses offers a comprehensive insight into the intricate karst features present in the M1 Field.
