Abstract

Karya "Schizophrenia and Built Environment" oleh Jan A. Golembiewski membahas inovasi arsitektural dalam mendukung pengelolaan skizofrenia.

The idea of multisensory architecture arises from an understanding of brain activity influenced by the senses in comprehending the environment. In the context of mental health, a multisensory environment can serve as a healing space, especially for groups vulnerable to sensory imbalances, such as individuals with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia, a severe mental disorder, creates a division between cognitive, affective, and behavioural abilities in individuals. Managing symptoms and avoiding psychotic experiences require specific attention to the surrounding environment. The work "Schizophrenia and Built Environment" by Jan A. Golembiewski discusses architectural innovations to support the management of schizophrenia. Golembiewski emphasizes architectural qualities that stimulate positive responses in individuals with schizophrenia based on their perceptions. Rehabilitation facilities, like Bleu Haven, offer comprehensive services by transforming the patient's environment and providing holistic care to facilitate reintegration into society. Bleu Haven also addresses challenges related to the negative stigma attached to rehabilitation facilities. Interdisciplinary intervention between psychology and architecture is essential to creating a therapeutic environment. Supported not only by Golembiewski but also by a force-based framework and the theory of psychiatric architecture by Chrysikou, Bleu Haven forms a home-like design with an emphasis on integrated sensory aspects that are friendly to individuals with schizophrenia, from the site scale to the interior. It is empathetic and inclusive and ultimately becomes a space for healing and equipping skills for individuals with schizophrenia to reclaim their victories in community life.
